Usability Analyst

Relevant Experience: 1 – 3 years

A Usability & Accessibility Specialist (also known as an Inclusive UX Researcher) ensures that products are intuitive, efficient, and perceivable by all users, including those with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive impairments.

While the Usability focus is on the customer experience and enjoyment of the software, the Accessibility focus ensures the product complies with global standards (like WCAG) and works seamlessly with assistive technologies. At 42Gears, this role is the bridge between complex technology and a barrier-free user experience.

Job description

  • As a Usability & Accessibility Analyst, you will go beyond basic testing. You will be a champion for inclusive design, influencing the lifecycle of 42Gears products from concept to deployment. You will advocate for the “hidden” user—those who rely on screen readers, keyboard navigation, or high-contrast modes—ensuring our tools are powerful yet accessible to everyone.  More specifically, you’ll get to:
  • Analyze workflows to identify usability bottlenecks and accessibility barriers (non-compliance with WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA).
  • Analyze user recordings, heatmaps, and accessibility-specific telemetry to understand how diverse user groups interact with our products.
  • Conduct hands-on testing using screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver), magnification tools, and keyboard-only navigation.
  • Collaborate with the UX team to validate design concepts.
  • Translate complex test findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of global accessibility laws (Section 508, ADA, EAA) to ensure our products remain compliant in international markets.

Skills required:

  • Familiarity with WCAG 2.1/2.2 guidelines.
  • Experience using accessibility evaluation tools (e.g., Axe, WAVE, Lighthouse) and screen-reading software.
  • The ability to think as a new user, a power user, and a user with specific accessibility needs.
  • A proven ability to take complex technical workflows and refine them into simple, user-friendly, and accessible experiences.
  • A natural desire to dig into “why” a user is struggling and the creativity to propose an elegant solution.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to explain technical accessibility requirements to non-technical stakeholders.
  • A strong desire to stay ahead of upcoming UX trends and evolving digital accessibility standards
