Managing user accounts across devices shouldn’t slow you down.

As an IT admin, your focus should be on empowering users and securing systems—not struggling with manual setups or multiple desk-side visits. That’s why SureMDM offers an even simpler, more powerful way to manage user accounts on Windows, Linux, and macOS devices.

Let’s take a look at how user account management works in SureMDM—and why it’s essential for modern IT teams.

What is User Account Management?

User account management ensures the right people have secure access to the right resources. It includes creating and deleting accounts, managing access rights, enforcing security policies, and maintaining compliance across devices.

Why User Account Management Matters

Here’s why streamlined user account management is critical for your organization:

  • Security That Scales
Whether you're onboarding shift workers or managing shared devices, separate login credentials and defined access help prevent unauthorized usage and data breaches. Add multi-factor authentication for extra protection.
  • Smarter Access Control
Grant access based on role, department, or schedule—ensuring users only see what they need to. This reduces the risk of insider threats and limits accidental exposure of sensitive data.
  • Remote Control Without Compromise
Manage accounts across devices—reset passwords, switch user roles, or revoke access—entirely remotely. No deskside visits, no downtime.
  • Boosted Productivity, Lower Costs
With less time spent managing user access, reduce helpdesk tickets. Organizations have seen up to an 80% reduction in administrative overhead.

SureMDM Makes User Account Management Effortless

You’ve always been able to use Run Script Jobs in SureMDM to manage SureMDM user accounts, Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) joined user accounts, and SureIDP users with greater precision.

For Windows Devices, you can now

  • Create Users: Set account type (Standard/Admin), configure passwords, and apply password rules.
  • Delete Users: Enter usernames to instantly remove accounts.
  • Change Passwords: Update credentials remotely—no need for user input.
  • Rename Built-in Accounts: Rename built-in Administrator or Guest accounts easily to comply with your audit and compliance rules.
  • Account Activation/Deactivation: Enable or disable user accounts as needed.
  • Modify Permissions: Switch users between Admin and Standard roles with ease. Admins can choose user types like currently logged-in users, all SureIDP users/all SureIdp users except, or local accounts/or all local account users except, making permission management more flexible and precise.
  • Set Time-Based Access: Ideal for shared or shift-based devices. Define access hours (start/end time, days of the week), apply schedules to individuals or groups, and update them anytime. In cases where a user's schedule changes, admins can easily modify their access times.

đź’ˇThis proves valuable when users work in shifts or experience a change in their work hours.

For macOS Devices

Manage users with the same ease and flexibility. From the SureMDM console, admins can:

  • Create Users: Define account type and apply password rules. New admin or standard users automatically receive Secure Token access if the Service Account is created.
  • Delete Users: Remove accounts directly from the console.
  • Modify Permissions: Change user roles from Standard to Administrator or vice versa as needed.
  • Change Passwords: Remotely reset passwords either with existing credentials, admin credentials, or via service account.

  • Create Users: Add new user accounts with predefined roles and password configurations.
  • Delete Users: Remove one or more user accounts from the device.
  • Modify Permissions: Change a user’s role to grant or restrict administrative privileges aka Sudo Access.
  • Change User Passwords: Reset passwords remotely.
  • Time-Based Access Control: Define when users can log in by setting specific days and hours.

User Account Management Right from the Home View

Another easier way to get a holistic view of user accounts is right from the SureMDM home screen. Admins can view the list of all accounts on a device, including SureIdP and LAPS-enabled users, along with their access levels and lock status. You can perform permission updates, reset passwords (where applicable), unlock accounts, and even export the entire table to a CSV file for reporting or audit purposes.

Note: SureIdP user passwords cannot be changed or unlocked from this interface, but their account types can be modified.

Streamlined User Account Reporting

Get complete visibility into user accounts across Windows, Linux, and macOS with the User Account Management Report. Available on-demand or scheduled, it provides key details like device names, account types, and group memberships—all in one place. Simply pick your device group and OS to access the insights instantly, cutting down manual audits and saving time for IT teams managing large fleets.

Note: Supported on SureMDM agent version 5.03.0+ for Windows, 5.0.3+ for Linux, and 5.3.0+ for macOS.

Wrapping Up

Managing user accounts shouldn’t be a bottleneck. Whether you're supporting shift-based teams, securing Entra-joined devices, or managing SureIDP users, SureMDM gives you complete control—without complexity. Ready to simplify user account management?
