Gain Better Control Over eSIM Management Across Your Device Fleet

Simplify eSIM management with SureMDM
By Nareddy Saivikas Reddy

As organizations deploy more cellular-connected devices across frontline, field, retail, logistics, and other distributed environments, managing SIM configurations across the fleet can become increasingly complex.

While eSIM technology eliminates the need for a physical SIM card, it also introduces new management requirements. IT administrators need to know whether a device is using a physical SIM or eSIM, whether each SIM slot is active, and which identifiers are associated with the embedded SIM. They also need a way to manage eSIM configurations when devices are deployed, reassigned, or retired.

When this information and control are spread across devices and separate records, even routine SIM management tasks can require additional manual effort.

To address these challenges, SureMDM now provides enhanced eSIM management and SIM visibility for supported devices. Administrators can manage eSIM provisioning and deprovisioning, view SIM type and status, access EID and Subscriber ID information, and wipe eSIM settings — all from the SureMDM console.

The Challenge of Managing SIMs at Scale

For organizations managing large fleets of cellular-enabled devices, understanding and managing SIM configurations can be difficult. Without centralized management, administrators may face challenges such as:

  • Limited visibility into SIM configuration: Determining whether a device uses a physical SIM or eSIM can require manual verification.
  • Difficulty monitoring SIM status: Administrators may not have an immediate view of whether individual SIM slots are active or inactive.
  • Manual tracking of eSIM identifiers: EID and Subscriber ID information may need to be collected or maintained separately from device records.
  • Complex device troubleshooting: Lack of SIM-level information can make it harder to investigate cellular connectivity and configuration issues remotely.
  • Manual eSIM management: Provisioning, deprovisioning, or removing eSIM configurations can require additional administrative effort.
  • Challenges during device reassignment: Existing eSIM configurations may need to be removed before devices are redeployed to another user or use case.
  • Limited fleet-wide visibility: When eSIM information isn't available in device grids and reports, managing and tracking large deployments becomes more difficult.

What's New in SureMDM

SureMDM's latest enhancements address these requirements by bringing key SIM and eSIM information and management capabilities into the existing device information experience.

  • Provision and Deprovision eSIM Settings — Administrators can now configure and manage the provisioning and deprovisioning of eSIM profiles on supported devices. eSIM configurations can be managed remotely as part of device deployment and lifecycle management, without requiring administrators to physically access each device.
  • Enhanced Network Info Section — The Network Info section in the device information panel now provides greater visibility into the SIM configuration of supported devices. For both SIM1 and SIM2, administrators can view SIM Type (Physical SIM or eSIM) and Status (Active or Inactive). These read-only fields are available within the respective SIM information sections, giving administrators a clearer view of how each SIM slot is configured and whether it is operational.
  • EID and Subscriber ID in Device Information — SureMDM can fetch the EID and Subscriber ID directly from the physical device hardware (eUICC) on supported devices. The EID and Subscriber ID are displayed within the existing Network Info section of device information, immediately below the Status information and positioned below the Serial Number in the UI list order, making key eSIM identifiers available alongside the other SIM and network information already available in the console.
  • EID in Device Grid and Reports — Administrators can also view the EID in the device grid and reports. This provides a convenient way to reference eSIM identifiers across managed devices and include them in device management and reporting workflows.
  • Wipe eSIM Settings — SureMDM also allows administrators to wipe eSIM settings from supported devices. This capability can be used when an existing eSIM configuration needs to be removed as part of device lifecycle management.

Key Benefits

  • Centralized SIM Visibility: Administrators get a centralized view of SIM configurations without having to rely on physical device access. Seeing the SIM type and operational status for SIM1 and SIM2 makes it easier to understand the cellular configuration of supported devices.
  • Faster Troubleshooting: Access to SIM type, status, EID, and Subscriber ID information from device information gives IT teams more relevant context when investigating cellular connectivity or configuration issues.
  • Reduced Manual Effort: Remote eSIM provisioning, deprovisioning, and wiping reduce the need for hands-on configuration. Admins can manage supported eSIM operations directly through the UEM console.
  • Easier Device Lifecycle Management: eSIM configurations can be managed as devices move through different stages of their lifecycle. Admins can provision connectivity during deployment, deprovision configurations when devices change assignments, and wipe eSIM settings when required.
  • Better EID Tracking: With EID information available in device information, the device grid, and reports, administrators have easier access to an important eSIM identifier. This can simplify device and SIM tracking across larger fleets.
  • Improved Operational Visibility: Bringing SIM type, status, EID, and Subscriber ID into the existing Network Info experience gives administrators a more complete view of cellular connectivity without requiring separate tools or records.
  • Simplified Management of Distributed Devices: For frontline and remote deployments where devices may not be physically accessible to IT teams, centralized eSIM management provides a practical way to manage cellular configurations remotely.

Manage the eSIM Lifecycle from SureMDM

eSIM management is becoming an increasingly important part of managing modern cellular-enabled devices. Organizations need both visibility into SIM configurations and the ability to manage those configurations remotely.

With the latest SureMDM enhancements, administrators can manage eSIM provisioning and deprovisioning, identify physical and eSIM configurations, check SIM status, access EID and Subscriber ID information, view EIDs in device grids and reports, and wipe eSIM settings on supported devices.
