KioskIE for Windows Mobile

What is KioskIE?

Companies can use Internet Explorer to run web applications on the enterprise Windows Mobile devices. The problem is that the users can use Internet Explorer to visit websites that they should not visit. KioskIE disables those features. It basically achieves the following:

  • Runs Internet Explorer in Fullscreen mode
  • Disables access to Address Bar
  • Disables access to Tap and Hold menu

Using KioskIE with SureLock

Please download this sample project and open it in SureLock Studio.

As specified in the above sample, your SureLock Project should also contain two entries similar to the ones in the screenshot below. You must:

1. Add \KioskIE.exe along with website address as parameter.
2. Add \windows\iexplore.exe and Select the "Hide Icon" option for this entry.

Using KioskIE without SureLock

There is no way to input the URL when Internet Explorer is running in kiosk mode. The solution is to pass the website address to KioskIE as command line parameter.

For e.g. \KioskIE.exe http://www.microsoft.com

Better way to launch KioskIE is to create a shortcut (lnk) which will contain the intended URL as parameter.

Other optional parameters:

1. To avoid hiding the title bar, use -nofullscreen parameter. e.g.
\KioskIE.exe -nofullscreen http://www.microsoft.com

2. To disable all the hardware keys, use -disablekeypad parameter e.g.
\KioskIE.exe -disablekeypad http://www.microsoft.com

3. To start logging, use -log parameter e.g.
\KioskIE.exe -log http://www.microsoft.com
Note: KioskIE.log is generated in \ folder of the device.
